Obama campaign flip-flops on “undivided” Jerusalem

Obama campaign flip-flops on “undivided” Jerusalem
By Israel Insider staff

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama did not preclude Palestinian sovereignty over parts of Jerusalem, or the possibility of the city being the capital of Palestine when he called for Israel’s capital to remain “undivided,” his campaign clarified.

“Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided,” Obama thundered Wednesday, earning an ovation from the 7,000-plus attendees at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference.

But a campaign adviser told the Jerusalem Post Thursday that what Obama really meant is that “Jerusalem is a final status issue, which means it has to be negotiated between the two parties” as part of “an agreement that they both can live with.” The adviser explained that “two principles should apply to any outcome,” which were: “Jerusalem remains Israel’s capital and it’s not going to be divided by barbed wire and checkpoints as it was in 1948-1967.”

That claim by itself is problematic: the United States does not recognize Jerusalem — even the Western part of the city — as Israel’s capital, and has consistently refused to move its Embassy there. Obama was not challenged on whether he, like many presidential candidates in the past, would promised to move the embassy to the place he recognized as Israel’s capital.

The adviser refused, however, to rule out the possibility city would also serve as the capital of a Palestinian state or that the Palestinians would be sovereign over neighborhoods of the city, nor did he take a stand with respect to the position of the Old City and the holy places.

“Beyond those principles, all other aspects are for the two parties to agree at final status negotiations,” the Obama adviser said, non-committally.

Many on the right of the political spectrum among America’s Jews had welcomed Obama’s remarks at AIPAC, but the subsequent “clarification” of his position left some disenchanted at yet another example of the candidate’s backtracking.

AHMADINEJAD VOWS U.S. WiLL BE “ANNIHILATED” SOON

AHMADINEJAD VOWS U.S. WiLL BE “ANNIHILATED” SOON

By Joel C. Rosenberg

(Washington, D.C., June 6, 2008) — Using some of his most apocalyptic rhetoric yet, Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is vowing that the United States and Israel will soon be “annihilated,” even as he refuses to abandon Iran’s nuclear program.

Marking the 19th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Khomeini, Ahmadinejad said: “Today, the time for the fall of the satanic power of the United States has come and the countdown to the annihilation of the emperor of power and wealth has started.”

He also insisted that “I must announce that the Zionist regime (Israel), with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion and betrayal is about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene.”

Are Israeli leaders thus planning to launch a massive air attack on Iran before the end of the year, or even before new national elections in Israel which may take place as early as November? Or are they trying to persuade the U.S. to do it before President Bush leaves office? Perhaps both. Which underscores the point I’ve been making for some time — while we intensify our efforts to pray for peace in the epicenter, we also need to be intensifying our efforts to prepare for war.

“An Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites looks ‘unavoidable’ given the apparent failure of Western sanctions to deny Tehran technology with bomb-making potential,” Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz said Friday, according to Reuters report. “If Iran continues with its program for developing nuclear weapons, we will attack it. The sanctions are ineffective,” said Mofaz.

“It was the most explicit threat yet against Iran from a member of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s government, which, like the Bush administration, has preferred to hint at force as a last resort should United Nations Security Council sanctions fail to achieve the desired abandonment of nuclear development by Tehran. Iran, which denies seeking nuclear weapons, has defied Western pressure to abandon its uranium enrichment projects. The leadership in Tehran has also threatened to retaliate against Israel — believed to have the Middle East’s only atomic arsenal — and U.S. targets in the Gulf for any attack on Iranian turf. Mofaz also said in the interview that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called for Israel to be wiped off the map, ‘would disappear before Israel does.’”

“[T]he White House sidestepped questions about the Israeli threat to attack Iranian nuclear sites, saying it would not respond to hypothetical question,” reported Ynet News in Israel. “‘The world community, I believe, is united in the desire to make sure that Iran doesn’t develop a nuclear weapon and have a severe threat that we don’t want to see come to fruition,’ White House spokesman Scott Stanzel told reporters. But asked specifically whether the United States would support an Israeli strike on Iran, he said, ‘I’m not going to talk about hypotheticals. I think we’ve been pretty clear in recent weeks and months about our approach on Iran.’”…Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is warning that Israel may soon be forced to launch a major military operation in Gaza to stop thousands of rockets, mortars and missiles which continue raining down on the southern cities and towns of the Jewish State….Reports the Jerusalem Post: “Prime Minister Ehud Olmert returned to Israel from the US on Friday morning and, echoing the previous day’s remarks by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, hinted that Gaza’s day of reckoning was fast approaching. ‘We are constantly evaluating between the possibility [of a deal] to reach complete quiet and the lack of a possibility of reaching such an agreement,’ he said. ‘The absence of the latter option will draw us closer to an operation that will be much harsher and tougher against the [terror] groups.

“According to the information we have now, the pendulum is closer to a decision to embark on a harsh operation in the Gaza Strip than it is to an agreement with the terror organizations,’ continued Olmert. Olmert’s comments came a day after Amnon Rozenberg, 51, a father of three, was killed by a Gaza shell that hit the Nirlat paint factory at Kibbutz Nir Oz. The Security Cabinet is set to convene on Tuesday to discuss a response to the incessant attacks from Gaza. Olmert told an Israel Radio reporter that Israel was exploring all the options available in order to achieve complete quiet for southerners without the need to enter into a violent and severe confrontation with terror groups in the Strip, adding, however, that there was a distinct possibility Israel would need to embark on an offensive and extensive operation against Palestinian terror groups.”

Weighing heavily on Olmert as he makes decisions about Iran and Gaza is his own precarious political position, and the fact that both he and President Bush will be out of office soon. Olmert was in Washington earlier this week, meeting with President Bush and other senior administration officials, as well as addressing the annual conference of AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. But Olmert’s trip may be his last to D.C. as premier.

The buzz out of Israel is that early elections are increasingly expected, perhaps this November or December. While this is not yet official — and Israeli politics are notoriously turbulent and unpredictable — leaders and field workers of the major parties are working under the assumption that the Olmert government, tainted by the failed Second Lebanon War and new allegations of corruption, is on its last legs and that they need to be ready for snap elections in the fall. For now, all eyes are focused on June 18th, the dates the Knesset could vote to dissolve itself, automatically triggering new elections.

New polling indicates the Likud Party, led by former Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu is not only far ahead but surging. Were elections held this month, Likud would be expected to pick up as many as 35 parliament seats, up from an estimated 30 seats last November. The Labour Party, by contrast — led by current Defense Minister Ehud Barak — has lost significant ground since last November, garnering support for only 19 seats currently, down from 23. Olmert’s Kadima Party, meanwhile, continues to slide. Current polls show Kadima — likely to be led by current Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni after Olmert’s departure — would receive only 11 Knesset seats, rather than 15.

Israel In Sight Of The Burning Fires

Israel In Sight Of The Burning Fires
By The Watchman Dana G smith

We have been warning about the coming conflagration that will involve Israel for along time.  The scripture below paints the picture very well. Israel, with Jerusalem as a centerpiece will become the eye catcher for all nations. They will behold it. At the center is the desire of nations to control this tiny little town, with Israel and all Jews Obliterated.

Zechariah 12:3  And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Moreover, many people have supported Israel, while at the same time, major denominations have withdrawn support. It is the battle we see shaping up that will bring the world into the final conflagration. Now, of course, there could be smaller skirmishes before the final one. Howbeit, when the final map of the battle is drawn, all nations will be gathered against Jerusalem and the Jewish state of Israel.

Right now we have Iran on one side with a desire for ‘nuclear power’. Once called “the most dangerous nation on earth” by certain operatives in the know, Iran would wait for the perfect time then unloose her arsenal upon Israel. The President of Iran said “wipe Israel off the map”. You think he was kidding? No, he was not.

Then we have the Palestinians who through certain political mistakes by Israel, now have the upper hand. The terrorists now have a nation right next to those people they hate. Then on the border with Israel is Lebanon. There are more Muslim terrorists there. The estimate is about 2,500 rockets.  In all, tiny Israel faces a huge amount of problematic haters around them.

Then throw in Israel’s abilities, her armed services, weapons, and arsenal. If Israel faces annihilation, she will throw everything she has against the Arab states and Russia. Nuclear, chemical, and all the other top weapons and manpower Israel has will be thrown into the fray. Israel will not face another way of life like the Jews faced with Hitler. They would die rather than have that happen. Along with Israel’s facing the dire hatred of enemies, we have the USA. We are closely aligned with her, at times anyway. No matter, the enemies of Israel hate us too. So when the fur flies, we will be in the target zone as well.

Good thing the Lord is watching out over us all.

Psalms 22:28  For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations.
No matter how evil men and women plot destruction, the Lord is in charge. His mercy endures to all generations.
Jeremiah 17:7  Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
1 Thessalonians 2:19  For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

So while things are heating up, you Trust in the Lord! No matter how bad things get, Hope in Him, you won’t be sad you did…..
God bless you….Trust Him today….The Watchman….

Say What, Barrack?

Say What, Barrack?

By Paul R. Hollrah

Tuning in to C-Span recently, I found myself listening to a speech by Senator Barrack Hussein Obama, Jr. He was standing in the pulpit of a black church in Selma, Alabama, and as I studied the body language of the dozen or so black ministers standing behind the senator, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the little head-bobbing dolls that people used to place in the rear windows of their 1957 Chevrolets. If their reactions are any indication, the new “Schlickmeister” of the Democrat Party is actually a pretty accomplished public speaker.

However, as he spoke, I found my b.s. a larm going off, repeatedly. But I couldn’t quite figure out why until I actually read excerpt s of his speech several days later. Here’s part of what he said:

“…something happened back here in Selma, Alabama. Something happened in Birmingham that sent out what Bobby Kennedy called, “ripples of hope all around the world.” Something happened when a bunch of women decided they were going to walk instead of ride the bus after a long day of doing somebody else’s laundry, looking after somebody else’s children.

“When (black) men who had PhD’s decided ‘that’s enough’ and ‘we’re going to stand up for our dignity,’ that sent a shout across oceans so that my grandfather began to imagine something different for his son. His son, who grew up herding goats in a small village in Africa could suddenly set his sights a little higher and believe that maybe a black man in this world had a chance.

“So the Kennedy’s decided we’re going to do an airlift. We’re going to go to Africa and start bringing young Africans over to this country and give them scholarships to study so they can learn what a wonderful country America is.

“This young man named Barack Obama g ot one of those tickets and came over to this country. He met this woman whose grea t great-great-great- grandfather had owned slaves; but she had a good idea there was some craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided that we know that, (in) the world as it has been, it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child. There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabam a , because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. Was born. So don’t tell me I don’t have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don’t tell me I’m not coming home to Selma, Alabama.”

Okay, so what’s wrong wit h that? It all sounds good. But is it?

Obama told his audience that, because some folks had the courage to “march across a bridge” in Selma, Alabama, his mother, a white woman from Kansas, and his father, a black Muslim from Africa, took heart. It gave them the courage to get married and have a child. The problem with that characterization is that Barrack Obama, Jr., was born on August 4, 1961, while the first of three marches across that bridge in Selma didn’t occur until March 7, 1965, at least five years after O ba ma ‘s parents met.

Obama went on to tell his audience that the Kennedys, Jack and Bobby, decided to do an airlift. They would bring some young Africans over so that they could be educated and learn all about America. His grandfather heard that call and sent his son, Barrack Obama, Sr., to America.

The problem with that scenario is that, having been born in August 1961, the future senator was not conceived until sometime in November 1960. So if this African grandfather heard words that ”sent a shout across oceans,” inspiring him to send his goat-herder son to America, it was not a Democrat Jack Kennedy he heard, nor his brother Bob by, it was a Republican President, Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Obama’s speech is reminiscent of Al Gore’s claim of having invented the Internet, Hillary Clinton’s claim of having been named after the first man to climb Mt. Everest, even though she was born five years and seven months before Sir Edmund climbed the mountain, and John Kerry’s imaginary trip to Cambodia.

As one of my black friends, Eddie Huff, has said, “We need to ask some very serious q uestions of the senator from Illinois. It’s not enough to be black, it’s not enough to be articulate, and it’s not enough to be eloquent and a media darling. The only question will be how deaf an ear, or how blind an eye, will people turn in order to turn a frog into a prince.”

”Life’s tough…..it’s even tougher if you’re stupid.”
