Zechariah “whose name means ‘Yahweh Remembers’ is one of the most Messianic and apocalyptic books with Eschatological meanings in the writings of the prophets. He is the son of Berechiah, and the grandson of Iddo mentioned in Zechariah 1:1, 7. There is according to references a Iddo mentioned among the priests who returned from the exile under Zerubbabel and Joshua in 536 bc. If this is the case, as the ISBE mentions then “Zechariah was a priest as well as a prophet.” Hebrew tradition declares that he was well advanced in years, so if he was a priest, he probably began preaching as a young man, then as he advanced, the role of prophet came to be in his older years.
Establishment of the Truth of Yeshua: Prophesied to Come!
Zechariah writes the pen of the ‘end times’ as his vision takes us not only back to how God dealt with his people, but directly speaks to those currently in Zechariah’s charge. Further he then looks forward to the coming Messiah called the ‘Branch’ in verse 8 of chapter three. Finally he brings prophetic and apocalyptic visions of the time we live in now.
Zechariah 3:8 ¶Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee:for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
He also tells of the servant that would be "the Branch" who will come and build the temple of the LORD. This is the coming of the Messiah Yeshua who brought the fulfillment to Israel of the coming Messiah. The Messiah being a Jew, came to Israel, whose first disciples were Jews, and the apostles were jews. Then we find the first church was Jewish, but upon the rock of faith in Jesus, Christ established the church ‘the called out ones’. It was this as well that became a promise to all gentiles who would come to believe on the name of Yeshua HaMassiah or Jesus Christ in the English as we call him today. Further, this is the call of the Jew and the gentile, both male and female; they shall all be one in that day. This is the intersection of the both the former covenant or testament what we call the Old Testament [covenant] and the New Testament or [covenant]. For the purpose was to unite one body, one nation into Christ [Messiah, HaMassiach] Jesus [Yeshua].
