“I will trust in the mercy of God forever and ever” Psalm 52:8

1 Peter 2:10  Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Isaiah 55:7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

All souls are mine!
Ezekiel 18:4  Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Soul That Sins!
Ezekiel 18:20  The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
None Righteous!
Romans 3:9  What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
This is the Choice!
John 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

This is where We Need Mercy!
You are a sinner as is everyone!
The soul that sins shall die
That soul is the Lords anyway, not your own!
Great Judge, our Father, has made propitiation through his Son

Psalms 52 is by David and about the event when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech. It Plots evil, deceit, and wickedness in the hearts of men against their own [David, whose heart was after God]. It describes the plight of those who are wicked and the hope of the righteous.

Psalms 52:
1.Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
2  Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3  Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
4  Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
5  God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

Psalms 52:
6  ¶The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
7  Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
8  But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
9  I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints

President of Oberlin College
from “The Oberlin Evangelist” Publication of Oberlin College
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 1837, Finney went to Oberlin College, where he was professor of theology until 1875 and president of the college from 1851 to 1865. At the same time he was pastor of the Oberlin Congregational Church and continued his evangelistic tours until his death, twice visiting England to conduct revivals. His theological writings, published chiefly in the Oberlin Evangelist, which he founded and edited, were of great influence and set the tone of “Oberlin theology,” one of the forms of New School Calvinism. His Lectures on Revivals of Religion (1835) became the classic book for generations of revivalists.
Charles G Finney, Excerpt on Mercy:
His theological writings, published chiefly in the Oberlin Evangelist, of which this sermon was published May 7th, 1845, called Trusting in God’s Mercy and was reported by The Editor.
Mercy is a disposition to pardon the guilty. Its exercise consists in arresting and setting aside the penalty of law, when that penalty has been incurred by transgression. It is, as has been said, directly opposed to justice. Justice treats every individual according to his deserts; mercy treats the criminal very differently from what he deserves to be treated. Desert is never the rule by which mercy is guided; while it is precisely the rule of justice.
Trust in God’s mercy implies a belief that he is merciful. We could not trust Him if we had no such belief. This belief must always lie at the foundation of real trust. Indeed so naturally does this belief beget that out-going of the soul and resting upon God which we call trust, that in the New Testament sense it commonly includes both. Faith, or belief, includes a hearty committal of the soul to God, and a cordial trust in him.
Psalm 89 is a Messianic Psalm which reaffirms the Davidic covenant in which his seed will reign. It shows that God is able to rescue his promise from the depths of the grave if necessary to fulfill it.
This Psalm remembers the covenant God made with David and Sorrow for Lost blessings.
Verses 1-4 puts the hope of The Davidic Covenant, Gods mercy and Faithfulness up front:
Psalms 89:1
¶<> I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
Psalms 89:2
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
Psalms 89:3
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
Psalms 89:4
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
Fulfillment: Is not this the Son of David!
Matthew 12:15  But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16  And charged them that they should not make him known:
17  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
18  Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19  He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20  A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21  And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
22  ¶Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23  And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
Matthew 21:9  And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
Paul in the Synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia,
Acts 13:16  Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
17  The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
18  And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19  And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
20  And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21  And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22  And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
23  Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
24  When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
Paul Turns to the Gentiles:
Acts 13:42  ¶And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43  Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44  And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
45  But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
46  Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Verses 5-14 shows “The Mighty God who is Faithful and all powerful, directs the paths of his people”!
Psalms 89:11
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
Psalms 89:12
The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
Psalms 89:13
Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
Psalms 89:14
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
Contrast fullfillment, the Messiah speaking about the ‘Kingdom’ God is bringing in!
The need to repent!
Luke 13:1  ¶There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2  And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3  I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4  Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5  I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
The Kingdom like Grain of mustard seed!
Luke 13:18  ¶Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?
19  It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.
The Kingdom like leaven:
Luke 13:20  And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?
21  It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
22  And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
23  ¶Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Enter at the Strait gate:
Luke 13:24  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
26  Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27  But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth:
28  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
29  And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
30  And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
How I would of Gathered thee, but thou would not have it!
Luke 13:34  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
35  Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Fullfillment: Zacharias, priest who burned incense in the temple, while performing his priestly duties Gabriel had come to Zacharias and told him a babe was to be born, called John and he would prepare the way. Zacahrias did not believe, so was struck so he could not speak until the day the babe was born of Elizabeth, then Zacharias told them his name was John.
Luke 1:67  ¶And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
69  And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
70  As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
71  That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72  To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
73  The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
74  That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
75  In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
76  And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77  To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78  Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79  To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
80  And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
Acts 4:17  But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18  And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19  But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20  For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21  So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
22  For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.
23  ¶And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
24  And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
25  Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
26  The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
Revelation 19:19  And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
20  And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21  And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
Verses 30-32 Chastisement of His Sons who forsake his laws
Psalms 89:30
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
Psalms 89:31
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
Psalms 89:32
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
Fullfillment: He went to his own and they received him not!
John 1:10  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15  ¶John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18  No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
Psalms 89:36
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
Psalms 89:37
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
Fullfillment: He shall be called Son of the Highest, the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David!
Luke 1:30  And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34  Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Fulfillment: Despised, rejected, forsaken, and death on the cross
Mark 14:27  And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
Luke 23:35  And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
36  And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
37  And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
38  And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39  And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40  But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41  And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42  And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43  And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
44  ¶And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
9  ¶And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
10  And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11  Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12  And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13  On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14  And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
3  ¶We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
4  Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
5  For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
6  Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
The Visible image of God
Colossians 1:15
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
The Agent of Creation
Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
The Sustainer
Colossians 1:17
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
The Head of the Church
Colossians 1:18
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
He reconciled us to the Father through his death
Colossians 1:21
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
Colossians 1:22
In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
He is Christ in you, the hope of glory!
Colossians 1:27
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
In him are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge
Colossians 2:2
That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
Colossians 2:3
In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
The Worlds wisdom, philosophies, vanity, deceit, does not conform to him!
Colossians 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
In him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead
Colossians 2:9
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
We are complete in Him, for he is the head of all principality and power
Colossians 2:10
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Colossians 2:11
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Colossians 2:12
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Colossians 2:13
¶And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Colossians 2:14
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Colossians 2:15
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:16
¶Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Colossians 2:17
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Your Aim: set it for Heaven, your life hid with Christ in God
Colossians 3:2
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:3
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
We are to Mortify -put to death- our members, putting off the old man with his deeds!
Colossians 3:5
¶Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Colossians 3:6
For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
Colossians 3:7
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
Colossians 3:8
¶But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Colossians 3:9
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Colossians 3:10
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Colossians 3:11
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Colossians 3:12
¶Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Colossians 3:13
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Colossians 3:14
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
