~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Fountain Within-Fear of God
out of the fear of God, comes our obedience to the will of the LORD, desiring to be obedient, for we know, he judges all men with equality.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There are two issues that drive this!
1. The first is how well do you keep the fear of the LORD in your heart?
2. The second is how well do you seek to walk in the Spirit?

Both of the above two questions are subject to and judged by the fact of your ‘fear’ of God! Do you really believe that he as the Father will judge you! Do you really believe that God will judge Christians! Do you believe and understand that God calls you to not only say with your lips you believe but to walk in it!

There is no such thing as a carnal Christian. This is an invention of American and most European churches today.
There are those who are ‘followers’ and his ‘sons and daughters’ or remnant, then there is the ‘disobedient’!
The question is, which one are you!

In Scripture the words ‘Fear Lord’, garner 339 hits in 153 verses!

What did Paul say and know about the Fear of the LORD!

1 Peter 3:15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

reason of the hope with meekness and fear-

meekness:
Rather it is an inwrought grace of the soul; and the exercises of it are first and chiefly towards God. It is that temper of spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting; it is closely linked with the word tapeinophrosune [humility], and follows directly upon it, Eph. 4:2; Col. 3:12; cf. the adjectives in the Sept. of Zeph. 3:12, “meek and lowly”; … it is only the humble heart which is also the meek, and which, as such, does not fight against God and more or less struggle and contend with Him. This meekness, however, being first of all a meekness before God, is also such in the face of men, even of evil men, out of a sense that these, with the insults and injuries which they may inflict, are permitted and employed by Him for the chastening and purifying of His elect

Eph 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace

fear:

“reverential fear,” (1) of God, as a controlling motive of the life, in matters spiritual and moral, not a mere “fear” of His power and righteous retribution, but a wholesome dread of displeasing Him, a “fear” which banishes the terror that shrinks from His presence, Rom. 8:15, and which influences the disposition and attitude of one whose circumstances are guided by trust in God, through the indwelling Spirit of God, Acts 9:31; Rom. 3:18; 2 Cor. 7:1; Eph. 5:21 (rv, “the fear of Christ”); Phil. 2:12; 1 Pet. 1:17 (a comprehensive phrase: the reverential “fear” of God will inspire a constant carefulness in dealing with others in His “fear”); 3:2, 15; the association of “fear and trembling,” as, e.g., in Phil. 2:12, has in the Sept. a much sterner import, e.g., Gen. 9:2; Exod. 15:16; Deut. 2:25; 11:25; Ps. 55:5; Isa. 19:16; (2) of superiors, e.g., Rom. 13:7; 1 Pet. 2:18

It is a ‘fear’ that is not one that causes you to shrink from God’s presence, but one in which we have received the Spirit of Adoption, through Christ. For it is this Spirit that bears witness we are the children of God!

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

It is a ‘fear’ a ‘reverential fear’ that is a wholesome dread of displeasing Him!

2 Cor 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God

It is a ‘fear’ that causes us to submit to each other in the fear of God. This submission, also influences us in all our relationships in Christ to others!

Eph 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God

It is a ‘fear’ that puts you to ‘work out your own salvation with fear and trembling’. This statement alone puts fear in the church today, because they hate the word work. But even James says ‘faith without works’ is dead. If you believe and have faith, then you must put with that faith, works or action that says, I love the LORD and will do as he says. This is not only love, but faith, and works, as you put with what you believe, action! Therefore, this in Philippians says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. In the ‘reverential fear’ of God, obey his word and keep it! Put into action.

Phil 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling1

It is a fear that causes us to pass our time here in respect of this statement “pass the time of your sojourning here in fear”. Doing those things that please the Father, for the Father, without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work. Make sure that work is ‘Holiness in the fear of God’.

1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear

Faith and Works, example of Abraham:

James 2:18  Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20  But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21  Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22  Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23  And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

The Thief on the cross: example of Jesus dealings with those crucified with him!

Luke 23:38
And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

One thief railed and joined with the others accusing the Christ!
Luke 23:39
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

The Works of the other thief and his faith!
The other thief rebuked him, saying ‘do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same boat?’
Luke 23:40
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

The thief admitted guilt before the Lord and also recognized the innocence of the LORD!
Luke 23:41
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

The thief ask to be remembered!
Luke 23:42
And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

The Lord honored his faith, his admission of guilt, and desired to be remembered. For he knew he was innocent and also Lord!
Luke 23:43
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

[Conclusion]
Therefore, it is a warning, and a guidance for us to understand that the ‘fear’ of the Lord is something we need to have. It is this fear that causes us to be obedient, in order to please the Father, we do as he wants us to do!

Revelation 15:4  Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest

This Fear of the LORD is
1. Wisdom
2. Understanding
3. Instruction

Proverbs 1:7  ¶The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 9:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding

What else is it?

There are those who have waited on the LORD, and when he appears to gather his own, it will be these who have discovered and followed his Treasure:
What is the treasure of the LORD?

Isaiah 33:2  O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.
3  At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered.
4  And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them.
5  The LORD is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness.
6  And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.

Bitter and Sweet Fountains
What defiles!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Out of heart, the mouth speaks!
This is that which defiles a man!
Every Word you speak shall be accounted for!
Matthew 12:34  O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Matthew 15:18  But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Matthew 12:36  But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
The Sweet Waters:
1. Words of my mouth
2. Meditation of my heart
3. Be acceptable in thy sight O LORD
4. A Good man brings forth good treasure out of his heart that which is good!
5. Out of the abundance of your heart, you speak!
Psalms 19:14  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Luke 6:45  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Bitter Waters:
1. Evil treasure in your heart
2. Words may be smoother than butter, but it is what is in your heart
3. Rash with the mouth, hasty, utters first thing that comes out!
4. No fear of God, unsaved, walking in the flesh!
Psalms 55:21  The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.
Wisdom for today:
Ecclesiastes 5:2  Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
James on the tongue:
1. How great a matter a little fire kindleth
James 3:5
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
2. It is a world of iniquity, it defiles the whole body, it can affect change, it can set things on fire, altar the course of nature, and itself is set on fire of hell-it in the end is demon provoked and guided!
James 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
3. The tongue no man came tame!
James 3:7
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
James 3:8
But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
But the believer by the power of the Spirit of God, has crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts!
Galatians 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Be not partakers with the ‘children of disobedience’
Ephesians 5:3  ¶But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4  Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5  For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7  Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Mortify your members which are upon the earth, i.e. put to death the ‘carnal tongue’, for you have put on the ‘new man’ which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him!
Colossians 3:5  ¶Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6  For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7  In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8  ¶But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
4. The Admonishment and warning of James on those who will ‘bless God’ at one time and still ‘curse men’ at another time! It should not be so!
James 3:9
Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
James 3:10
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
5. If you are endued with the true knowledge of the LORD, then you should shew out of a good conversation his works, with meekness of wisdom.
Do not use earthly wisdom, which is sensual and devilish. It breeds bitter envy, strife, jealousy, and every evil work! It causes division and is not that wisdom from above. [see fruits of spirit again]
Gal 5: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
James 3:13
¶Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
James 3:14
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
James 3:15
This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
James 3:16
For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
6. The Fruit that is from above concerning the tonque, is first pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be intreated, full of mercy, with good fruits, has no partiality, and no hypocrisy! If you are Christs, then you will sow these good fruits in peace, making peace with your lips.
James 3:17
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
James 3:18
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Fountain-Judge or Discern?
Learning not to murmur against the Lord or his anointed, or each other!
Trials, walking by faith, speaking not hastily with our mouth!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are called to discern yes, to judge no!
There is a place within that discernment to be able to judge rightly before the LORD [this is truly for those who have exercised this with age, knowing therefore the mind of the LORD-ex 1 Cor chapter 6]. Aim repentance
But it is never okay to Judge[aim is to hinder and comes from an evil heart] as is pointed out by these scriptures!
It is a place that many Christians go and are defiled thereby, therefore do not go this path! Stay away from it!
Judge:
This is speaking evil of his brother
This is judging his brother
This is not walking in love
Thus it becomes judgment of the law
Thus you become a judge and not a doer
It flows directly from evil intent, wickedness, and the fruit of that heart!
James 4:11  ¶Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Matthew 7:1  ¶Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Matthew 7:2  For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Luke 6:37  ¶Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
Romans 14:10  But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
1 Corinthians 4:5  Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
Discern:
James on Discernment:
If one is Christ’s, one who is walking in his image, then will he have sweet or bitter water?
Answer sweet!
If you find a fig tree can it bear olives?
Answer no!
Can a olive vine bear figs?
Answer no!
Can a fountain that brings forth water yield both salt water and fresh?
Answer no!
So too, if one is in Christ, his water is one sweet, that is, if he is truly in Christ!
James 3:11
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
James 3:12
Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
Discernment: What do we look for?
First, discernment or the ability to know is strong meat, given to those of full age. By the word of God, being taught, developed, walking in the things of God, they over the years uses the Spirit of God and through this exercise have the ability to know good and evil. But if you do not read the word, keep the word, nor walk in any of it, then your ability to discern is not there at all.
Jesus, Twice in Matthew chapter 7 ‘by their fruits’
1. Jesus said, ‘by their fruits ye shall know them’: again look at the fruits of the spirit and the words of James:
2. Jesus said this by their ‘fruits ye shall know them’ again in chapter seven of Matthew!
Hebrews 5:14  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil
Matthew 7:16  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Matthew 7:20  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Waters of Marah
The Wilderness of Sin
Final notes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jesus warned that “this people draw night to him with their mouth” and even “honor him with their lips”, but “their heart is far from me”!
Matthew 15:8  This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me
In bitterness there is murmuring against the Lord and his vessels whom he uses! It comes by testing, the Lord finds out what is in your hearts!
Example: The Waters of Marah [bitterness] :
Waters: out of your belly shall flow rivers of water
John 7:38  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Branch: type of Christ
Jeremiah 23:5  Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Meaning: through Christ, bitterness of the belly will become sweet. That which is in rebellion against God will be made sweet through the LORD.
Exodus 15:21  And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
22  ¶So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
23  And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.
24  And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
25  And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
26  And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
The provision and type for:
number 12: ISBE, p 2162, unity, completeness which has been sanction by divine election. Here we see 12, representing the twelve tribes of Israel, and the 12 Apostles, in this by divine election there is unity, completeness. It represents life, divine appointment, and what God has promised in its fullness!
number 40:
In three score and ten, we find 40, which is regarded as the ‘age of understanding, the age when a man reaches his intellectual prime. In this it represents a divine authority for man, for 40 is a length of time, an indefinite period. It points to that time when ‘knowledge’, the ‘knowledge’ of God, which has been provided for man, will be in its fullness in Christ when he returns.
Wells of water:
Exodus 15:27  And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
Here the meaning: there is one cistern, one well, one from which we should be drinking from:
Jeremiah 2:13  For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
In Sin, we find ‘murmuring’ which comes from the ‘evil heart of unbelief’
The Wilderness of Sin:
Sin, here means ‘thorn or clay’. This is only fifteen days after being delivered out of Egypt, the type of the world. The lesson, right after deliverance, with miracles, many times we come to a place where we find ‘thorns or clay’.
Exodus 16:1  ¶And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
2  And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
3  And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
Thorn: a messenger sent to buffet!
2 Corinthians 12:7  And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
Clay: We are the clay, God has power over us, especially in our new Spiritual life, to guide and to correct us.
Romans 9:21  Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Clay: It is also a place of testing and trial. A place where we may be stuck or seem to be stuck. The Psalmist said it this way:
Psalms 40:2  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
HE brought me out of the miry clay and set my feet upon the rock- Christ Jesus, the chief corner stone! He was delivered! He kept the faith!
The examples above of Israel:
Hebrews 3:16  For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17  But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18  And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19  So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Our Goal:
Walk by faith and not sin with our lips, speaking out of an evil heart things which could defile us and bring upon us more trouble!
Hebrews 4:1  ¶Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Hebrews 11:13  These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Hebrews 11:39  And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
Hebrews 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
James 1:3  Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
James 1:6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
