To The Strangers who are scattered: Elect

The Lord has always had a people, those who follow him with all their hearts. Peter addresses the ‘strangers’ in his first epistle. They were all over the Roman empire and it would not too long before the decree’s from Rome would put them all [men, women, children, old, everyone] who believed and followed the gospel of Jesus Christ in Jeopardy, meaning death. An intense persecution so severe that in the annuls of history very few compare to it.
Peter spoke to Hebrew Christians, gentile Christians, and brought forth the God given word for the hour.
Having such an ‘elect’ followed the ‘foreknowledge of God the Father’. It was the Father who with the Son knew of this and prepared for the redemption and election of a people special to the Lord God. They would come from all nations. As Revelation points out in chapter 13:8 there will come a time when all the earth shall worship an imposter who shall declare himself God. The only ones who will not will be those whose names are written in the “book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
God had made his plans, he is in charge and this would occur. Now as Peter continued he knew his own time was short, he was ready to go meet the Lord, yet he knew wicked men who would appear as ‘light’ would try to lead the sheep astray. He had to prepare them.
Peter further tells the “Strangers who were scattered”, This elect came as a result of the Father who had seen they would become “elect”
1. Through sanctification of the Spirit
2. Unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ
These “Strangers” who were scattered in the world, were such because they were not of the world. They were mere travelers, as Abraham was, looking for a city whose builder and maker was God.
They through this “Election” would be made “Elect” unto God and known to him but become a stranger to the world and its devices. They were in the world and not of it.
The process of this election came as a result of the Holy Spirits sanctification in their lives
and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ, which was applied to them. They were obedient and repented, believed upon, and received the Son of God as their Savior. It was the work of “Grace” or Gods favor out of his mercy and love for all men It was that process of God, by Grace through Faith. We obtained this Grace, by faith, believing.
1 Peter 1:1

1 Peter 1:2

Thus to the strangers this process became a “blessing, a lively hope” all which came from the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Son of God whose obedience to the Father was evident. Everything flowed out of Gods Grace, from his mercy and love. Through this love the strangers came to understand and know this “lively hope”

To The Strangers who are scattered: Inheritance

This hope then was evident by the “resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”
This hope define our future and what God had in store, which was:
1. To an inheritance
Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
2.. An inheritance which is incorruptible and undefiled
Ephesians 2:1 ¶And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
3. An inheritance that fadeth not away
Ephesians 2:4 ¶But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
4. An inheritance reserved in heaven for you,
Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 ¶For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
1 Peter 1:3
¶Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Peter 1:4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Now all this is done not by man, nor mans wisdom, nor by the nations of men, nor by familiar spirits, nor by the chief deceiver himself and his minions.
This is done only one way, from one source for a specific time to come!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These “Strangers, who were elect”, along with all others, including us who believed as they did would received the same thing, if no one quits.

2. They are kept by the power of God, through the faith of those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and his work
Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
1 Corinthians 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
2 Thessalonians 1:11 ¶Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
4. They are kept for a time when their full Salvation will be revealed
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
5. They are waiting for a specific hour which is spoken of as “the last time”
Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
1 Peter 1:5
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

To The Strangers who are scattered: Affliction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Chosen Generation, who was not a people of God, but now are the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy!
The Chief Corner stone!
1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
The Royal Priesthood, holy nation!
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
Arm Yourselves with the same mind: Christ suffered for us in the flesh, likewise do we! Being prepared to suffer for Christ in this flesh because of who we serve, the Lord Jesus Christ!
1 Peter 4:1 ¶Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4 ¶Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
7 ¶But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
Speak as the oracles of God, minister with the ability God gives, do all things to glory God on this behalf through Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
The Fiery Trial is coming!
12 ¶Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
Partakers of Christ’s sufferings
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
Judgment at the house of God
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
Your Adversary the devil seeks to devour all he can, resist him in the faith!
1 Peter 5:8 ¶Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 ¶But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
All that will live godly in Christ Jesus Shall suffer persecution:
2 Timothy 3:11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
No root, endures for awhile but when tribulation or persecution because of the word, they are offended!
Matthew 13:20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
The Thorny Christian: hears the word, but care of world, deceit of riches choke the word and he becomes unfruitful!
22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
The [Disciple] Good Ground, hears the word, understands it, bears fruit
23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
John 8:31 ¶Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

An Imprisoned Pastor in Romania
“I know of other Christians who were released from Communist Prisons, such as I was. Like them, I was stopped several times on the street by passersby asking:
“Sir what is in you? You look like such a happy man. What is the source of your happiness?”
I told them that it came from many years in Communist Jails suffering for my Savior!
“They could not understand this because they could not think beyond the difficulty of their own lives. They had not learned to walk in the Spirit and to experience the presence of God. Many would think, “If only you knew what a life I have-a husband who batters me, a wife who nags, and children who break my heart. There are many material difficulties and tempests in you soul. But what of them? How are they to compare withe joy of knowing Jesus?”
An Writer and Recorder of Christian History
Someone overheard John and immediately reported him to the college administration. They accused him of holding beliefs in rebellion to the government and against the state church. When he refused to deny his convictions, the council expelled him from the university.
Because of this, John had great difficulty find work as a teacher. One day, exhausted with hunger, he sat praying in a church. A man John had never met suddenly appeared and thrust a sum of money into his hand. He said “in a few days new work will present itself to you.” A few days later he was hired as a tutor.
Under the reign of Henry VIII, Christians like John were tolerated. When Mary I came to power, however, she executed any who defied the religious edicts of the state. Three hundred people died during her five year reign. John and his pregnant wife fled England to Belgium, barely escaping being apprehended.
In defense of those who died for their faith, John wrote Foxe’s Book of Martyrs.
The Bottom Line here: The victory that overcomes the world, our faith!
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1 John 5:18 ¶We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
